My bad~ It’s an oarfish

December 18th 2007 in Interesting, Main

Hi all,

Thanks to ShadowFox’s comments regarding the video about a ‘dragon caught’ in Malaysia and after my own researching over Google + Wikipedia.. I found out that this was no Dragon :) It’s actually an ‘Oarfish’! Yup.. It’s a type of fish that’s been around for centuries and I must say, a cause for those ‘monster sightings’ because of they way it looks as well as its living behavior. According to Wikipedia:

Oarfish are large, greatly elongated, pelagic Lampriform fish comprising the small family Regalecidae. Found in all temperate to tropical oceans yet rarely seen, the oarfish family contains four species in two genera. One of these, the king of herrings (Regalecus glesne), is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest bony fish alive, at up to 11 metres in length

Interesting huh? For those of you adventurous folks out there, here’s a link for you guys to find out more about this wonderful creature! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oarfish

Also, I’ve added a Video i found on Youtube on Oarfish. Enjoy!

If you want to see a really impressive prehistoric fish, try the coelacanth.

Thought to be extinct, and never filmed alive until recently.

Hey there ShadowFox! Thanks for the video link :)

Nice finding! I read about coelacanth on wikipedia and now I learnt quite a lot of stuff already  thanks to you :D

PS: On a side note, Coelacanth was used in the Pokemon game and it’s called Relicanth in it! Didn’t know that :P

And just after 2 days of learning a new software called 3D Studio Max, I think I got a hang of it [...]
